I am still mostly doing readings and research on this final project, as I am struggling to find the balance of making someone listen to the other side without making them merely tune out: I know how easy it is to just stop listening to someone I don't want to listen to, and I am not quite sure how to build the mechanic of having someone be in a 'hostile mind space' without just rejecting it. I have been reading books. Some about psychology (The Righteous Mind, Identity Mania) and after a visit to the library I also found a few things on archery and communication which I intend to explore further. But this week I intend to do some playtesting on perhaps making someone wear an eye mask and listen to something they vehemently opposed to for 5 minutes without any reaction. For example: an Obama supporter listening to Rush Limbaugh or a devout Christian listening to this Bill Maher rant. I will see if they can withstand the challenge without making any sort of response, and will ask them how they feel as they listen to it. This might give me some more ideas about how to design a space or a fuller experience on enforced communication.
